You'll find different types of Tetra Fish. And each one has its own proper treatment. However, what’s here are just the fundamental good care of your Tetra Fishes.

Selecting a Tank

In choosing an aquarium, you have to be able to determine the best size of aquarium for the School of Tetra fish. You may use small fish tanks such as a 5-gallon fish tank but a 10-gallon aquarium is appropriate for this kind of fish since they don’t grow larger than 3 inches.

Don't forget this rule of thumb, don’t over crowd your tank with fish, else there'll be an increased level of competition for the food, and area. It is suggested that you choose to begin with 5-8 pcs of Tetra for the 10 gallon aquarium. It's not suggested that you will have only one Tetra since they live as a school of fish in natural environment. Just make sure that they will just have enough place to grow and enjoy their environment. Not overcrowded, and not too few.

Tank Decorations

It’s wise to put lots of plants because it will somehow block direct light on the tank because Tetra fish prefers lesser light within their fish tank than other fishes. But make sure that the fish really has a lot of ways to move around and plenty of hiding places because it can make the fish feel safer in your fish tank. A dark substrate can also be useful in making a less bright environment since it won't reflect the light from the lighting system.

Please, because our purpose is to make nature aquarium, I am speaking about the real live marine plants here. Don’t use plastic. Tetras are best to observe if they are in the natural environment.

Water Conditions

It is necessary that the water temperature is maintained between 72 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit. A pH level of 5.5 to 7.5 is recommended since Tetra fish prefer moderately soft water and is slightly acidic.

Basically, they are for fresh water aquarium and not for saltwater aquarium. Also, you should make sure that your substrate neither is white sand nor crushed corals. They will likely emit calcium in water which isn't too healthy for the fish.

Maintenance

It is very important make your water as clean as you can but not 100% clean. Make sure you only change about 40% of the total volume of water if you're going to change it once a week and 70% of the total amount of if you intend on changing it once every 2 weeks. This is to prevent destroying and eliminating beneficial organisms that lives within your tank together with your fish.

Use heaters if necessary and make sure that the temperature of water is close enough to the ideal temperature of water simply because huge shift of temperature may affect the fish and would cause stress.

Feeding Your Tetra

Tetra fish can take veggies, flake foods, tropical granules, frozen and dried foods, and live foods. You may give meat-based foods for most meals and vegetables occasionally. Please do not forget that you should not feed the fish with vegetables such as peas because it could cause severe damage to the digestive tract of your fish.

We are really not referring here to the raw veggies alright??? It’s best to buy flake fish food than to experiment with untested food.
